ASHEVILLE, N.C. – After a weeklong break, the UNC Asheville women's basketball team returns to the court on Thursday, Dec. 28 to square off with Furman for a 7 p.m. tipoff inside Kimmel Arena.

About UNC Asheville
 
The Bulldogs (3-7) won their third game in the last four contests as they defeated Appalachian State 69-60 inside Kimmel Arena. The win at home marked their second win inside Kimmel Arena this season.
 
The highlight of the contest was senior center Bronaza Fitzgerald becoming the 18th player in UNC Asheville history to record her 500th career rebound. She finished the contest with eight re­bounds and 13 points. Jessica Wall totaled a game-high 18 points and two assists in 39 minutes of play. Khaila Webb netted 13 points along with five assists and four steals to go along with seven made free throws. Zip Scott rounded out the double-digits in scoring for the Bulldogs as the junior guard netted 12 points and seven rebounds in 31 minutes of action.
 
UNC Asheville led for over 38 minutes as it won its first overtime game of the season over the Mountaineers.

The Bulldogs have won three of their last four contests with wins over Warren Wilson, USC Upstate and Appalachian State.
 
During that stretch, the average scoring margin for Asheville is +12.8 as the Bulldogs average 75.2 ppg and allow only 62.5 points. Asheville is out-shooting opponents .443 to .393 including .415 to .275 behind the three-point arc. UNC Asheville has also grabbed 41 more rebounds than opponents during the same stretch.
 
At the Big South Conference Media Day, the Bulldogs were selected to finish fifth, despite receiving the second-highest amount of first-place votes in the league. Radford earned seven of the total first-place votes as the Highlanders were selected the win the league.
 
UNC Asheville opens its conference portion of the schedule on Jan. 2 at Campbell followed by the conference home opener on Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. versus High Point.
 
Scouting Furman
 
Furman returns from the holiday break with an 8-4 overall record and a 1-3 mark in true road contests. The Paladins are 2-2 in their last four games as they have upended Bob Jones at home and defeated Ohio at the West Palm Beach Tournament two games ago.
 
Cierra Carter – the reigning Southern Conference Player of the Week - is one of the most explosive players on the Furman team as she averages 16.1 ppg. She has started all 12 contests this season for the Paladins as she averages 33.4 minutes per game. She has made 62 field goals this year and has been nearly perfect from the free-throw line as she is 46-for-49 from the charity stripe. She is also first on the team with 16 steals.
 
Le'Jzae Davidson is second on the team with 14.3 ppg while Celena Taborn (10.5) rounds out the double-digits in points per game on the season. Carter paces the team with 76 total rebounds, and DeAnneisha Jackson has grabbed 72 rebounds (6.0 rpg) this season.
 
Prior to the beginning of season, Furman was predicted to finish fifth out of eight teams in the SoCon Coaches' and Media Polls.
