BULLDOG BITES
BIG SOUTH SHOWDOWN: In a battle of two of the teams atop the Big South Conference standings, UNC Asheville (11-6, 3-1 Big South Conference) welcomes Longwood (6-9, 3-1 Big South Conference) to Kimmel Arena. 

SERIES: UNC Asheville and Longwood will be meeting for the eighth time with the Bulldogs owning a 6-1 all-time series advantage. 

COLD OUTSIDE, BUT HOT INSIDE: The Bulldogs finished their win over High Point shooting a season-best 61.9 percent (13-of-21) from beyond the arc. Asheville shot 71.4 percent (5-of-7) from beyond the arc as a team in the second half.

TEAGUE CHOSEN BIG SOUTH FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK (JAN. 9): UNC Asheville freshman guard MaCio Teague was named the Come Ready Nutrition Big South Conference Men's Basketball Freshman of the Week on Monday, Jan. 9, 2017. In a perfect 2-0 week for the Bulldogs, Teague averaged 17 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and one steal per game. In Asheville's 70-57 road win at Liberty on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, Teague finished his efforts with 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Teague followed the performance up against High Point by ending his day with 16 points, six rebounds and five assists in the Bulldogs' dominating 30-point 88-58 home win over the Panthers on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017. The Cincinnati, Ohio native was 11-of-16 (68.8 percent) from the field overall on the week. He connected on 83.3 percent (5-of-6) of his three-point attempts on the week and he was 7-of-8 (87.5 percent) from the free throw line on the week.

SHARING THE BASKETBALL: Asheville opened its big win over High Point with 12 assists on its first 12 made field goals of the game. The Bulldogs ended their win with 20 assists on 29 made field goals. Kevin Vannatta led Asheville in assists with six. In total, seven Bulldogs recorded at least one assist with three having four or more (Will Weeks, MaCio Teague and Vannatta).

WE'LL TAKE THAT: Asheville forced High Point into 18 turnovers with the Bulldogs scoring 36 points off of the Panther miscues, which means the Bulldogs averaged a bucket each time they forced a turnover.

AMONG THE BEST: Ahmad Thomas is currently tied for second in the country in total steals with 52. He is fifth in the country in steals per game with 3.06 steals per outing. 

HOME SWEET HOME: The Bulldogs are 6-1 on the year at home. The Asheville men protected home court very efficiently last season as well, going 11-3 at home. UNC Asheville is 61-16 at Kimmel Arena all-time. 

A HUGE LIFT: David Robertson has been huge for the Bulldogs in the start of conference play. Currently, Robertson is averaging a league fourth-best 19 points per game in conference games only. Robertson has knocked down a conference-best 20 three-pointers in league play so far.

IT'S A STEAL: The UNC Asheville men's basketball team boasts one of the top defenses in the entire country with the Bulldogs fourth in the country in total steals (170). The Bulldogs are also eighth in the country in steals per game (10.00). 

UP NEXT: UNC Asheville continues Big South Conference play by traveling to the Palmetto State to take on Charleston Southern at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017.
