ASHEVILLE– The UNC Asheville Men's Tennis team rolled past Winthrop University with a 6-1 victory to kick off their last weekend at home for the 2016 season.

 

Asheville will host Longwood University tomorrow, April 2nd at the Asheville Racquet Club for the Bulldogs' Senior Day where they will honor the program's four seniors, Alex Croker, Brett Landau, Thomas Orestis-Panoulas and Daniel Kripak. The Senior Day Presentation will begin at 2:30p.m. and the match will begin at 3:00p.m.

 

NOTABLES

-Asheville jumped out early, taking the doubles point with wins from seniors Alex Croker and Brett Landau on court one (6-3), and Henry Patten and Josh Swindler on court two (6-2). Bulldogs Thomas Orestis-Panoulas and Reid Dillion lost a close match on court three to the Eagles (7-5).

 

-Winthrop responded with a win on court one (6-4, 6-2), but it would be their only singles victory of the match.

 

-The Bulldogs came through with five singles victories on courts 2-6. Patten collected a (6-4, 6-2) win on court two, Panoulas delivered a win over Winthrop's Chen (6-3, 6-4) on court three and Swindler came back for a (2-6, 6-2, 6-4) victory on court four. Brett Landau got a win for Asheville on court five (7-6, 6-4) and senior, Daniel Kripak picked up a three-set victory to finish the match for the Bulldogs on court six (7-6, 6-3, 1-0).

 

-Asheville's victory over Winthrop gave them their third straight conference win, moving them to a record of 4-2 in the Big South Conference and securing the number three sport in the BSC regular season rankings.

 

-Patten's victory on court two improves his singles record to a team-best 11-4. Patten also received Big South Conference Freshman of the Week honors earlier this week.

 

-Today's match was the second match back for Asheville's Kripak after battling an injury throughout the season. Today's win moves him to a record of 1-1 in flight six.

On the Win- “I'm very pleased with the way we competed today. We set a good tone early in the match with a great start in the doubles, and it continued over into the singles.”

 

On Senior Day- “Bittersweet day tomorrow for our graduating seniors. This group has meant so much to our program over the years. We are both very proud of them and sorry to see them go.”

-The Bulldogs welcome Longwood University on Saturday, April 2nd for Asheville's Senior Day. The presentation will begin at 2:30 p.m. and the match will begin at 3:00p.m. This will be Asheville's last home match of the 2016 season.
