THE TURNING POINT

NOTABLES

-Asheville finished with seven total hits on the night, with two coming from Scott Kobos, who connected on his seventh double of the season in the loss. Joe Tietjen (hit), Danny Wilson and Alex Baratta (double) drove in the three Bulldog runs.

-Bulldog starter Spencer Orr did not factor into the decision after exiting following four innings in which he allowed one run on two hits with four strikeouts. Zach Greene was saddled with the loss, the first of four Asheville relievers, allowing two runs on two hits in 2/3 of an inning of work.

-Asheville drew only one walk in the loss, with Pete Guy tallying his 31st base on balls this season to move him into a tie for the national lead.

-Guy's walk to open the bottom of the first inning resulted in him scoring the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning when Tietjen connected on his RBI single. The Bulldogs added to the lead moments later on Wilson's RBI fly out that brought in Kyle Carruthers.

-Upstate cut into the lead in the third inning via a leadoff walk and ground rule double before the visitors took the lead in the fifth inning, using an RBI triple and a Bulldog error to plate two runs. They went on to add another run in the top of the sixth when a leadoff single scored on an RBI base hit later in the frame.

-In the big five run seventh, Upstate began the frame with a groundout before seven consecutive batters reached base. The inning was highlighted by a three-run triple and an RBI double and run-scoring single.

-Asheville plated one run in the ninth, collecting three hits, as Erik Connolly delivered a pinch hit single and later scored on Baratta's double down the right field line.
