Bulldogs Headed to Brooklyn as No. 15 Seed; Will Face Villanova

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville is headed to Brooklyn for the NCAA Tournament, the Bulldogs and the rest of the country found out as the 2016 NCAA Tournament bracket was released live Sunday night.
The Bulldogs, a No. 15 seed for the first time in school history, will face Villanova, the No. 2 seed, as part of the South Region bracket, on Friday in Brooklyn at the Barclays Center. Game times will be announced following the conclusion of the full bracket reveal.
Asheville, the Big South Conference Champion, enters the NCAA Tournament with a 22-11 record after winning three straight games last weekend to capture the league title and automatic bid to the tournament. The Bulldogs closed the regular season with wins in seven of their last 10 games, including the tournament title.
Villanova, 29-5 overall, enters the NCAA Tournament coming off of a loss to Seton Hall in the Big East Championship game Saturday night. The Wildcats are 8-2 over their last 10 games.
Friday's game will be the first-ever meeting between Asheville and Villanova on the hardwood.
Asheville, making its fourth appearance in the NCAA Tournament (2003, 2011, 2012, 2016), is 2-3 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, with wins over Texas Southern (2003) and Arkansas-Little Rock (2011) and losses to Texas (2003), Pittsburgh (2011) and Syracuse (2012).
Villanova will make its 36th NCAA Tournament appearance, with an all-time record of 51-34.
