01.11.2016 | Men's Basketball
CHARLOTTE, N.C. –UNC Asheville guard Dwayne Sutton has been named the Big South Men's Basketball Freshman of the Week, the conference announced this afternoon. It is the second time in as many weeks Asheville has garnered Freshman of the Week honors after Dylan Smith was honored last week, and is Sutton's third recognition this season.
Sutton finished with a pair of double-digit scoring nights in Asheville's two wins last week, including the game's only double-double on Saturday against Charleston Southern (18 points, 13 rebounds). He collected a total of 31 points on 8-of-18 shooting, hitting 15 of his 20 free throws at the stripe. Sutton added 20 rebounds, six assists, five steals and four blocks in 63 total minutes of action.
Sutton and the Bulldogs are now 12-5 on the season and a perfect 5-0 in Big South Conference play. They continue play on Thursday night on the road at Radford before returning home to face Gardner-Webb on Saturday afternoon as part of a home doubleheader with the Bulldog women's team.
