Bulldogs Will Face Drexel in Great Alaska Shootout Opener

ANCHORAGE, AK – The UNC Asheville men's basketball team now knows its opening opponent in the 2015 GCI Great Alaska Shootout, as the University of Alaska Anchorage has unveiled the tournament pairings today, with seven games slated to air on national television on CBS Sports Network.

 

UNC Asheville will play their first game on Thanksgiving night, November 26, against the Drexel Dragons with an 8 p.m. tipoff in Alaska – a midnight start back on the east coast. Fans will be able to watch the Bulldogs live on CBS Sports Network.

 

The winner of the Asheville-Drexel contest will face the winner of the Middle Tennessee-Alaska-Anchorage contest on Friday night at 8 p.m. Alaskan time, with the two losing teams facing off Friday at 2 p.m. Alaskan time.

 

The remaining first-round matchups will come on Wednesday night, with San Jose State facing Toledo in the opener at 7:30 p.m. AST/11:30 p.m. EST, followed by San  Diego against Loyola Chicago at 10 p.m. AST/2 a.m. EST.

This year's Shootout is scheduled for Nov. 24-28 at the Alaska Airlines Center, starting with women's first-round action on Tuesday night and concluding with the men's championship on Saturday. CBS Sports Network will broadcast the tournament for the fourth consecutive year, also airing both Friday semifinals as well as Saturday night's championship game at 8:30 p.m. AST/12:30 a.m. EST in addition to the four opening round games.

 

The GCI Great Alaska Shootout is the longest-running regular-season college basketball tournament in the nation, taking place every Thanksgiving in Anchorage since 1978. This will be the second tournament held at UAA's new, 5,000-seat Alaska Airlines Center.
