04.08.2015 | Women's Tennis

CLINTON, S.C. – The UNC Asheville women's tennis team extended it win streak against Presbyterian College to four with a 5-2 victory on Wednesday afternoon at the Templeton Tennis Courts.

Asheville improves to 13-6 overall and 3-5 in the Big South, while Presbyterian College drops to 12-9 for the year and 1-7 in the league.

The Bulldogs took advantage of a short-handed PC lineup in both singles and doubles.  Hunter Hall and Amryn Soldier won by default at the third flight, allowing Ericka Rivero and Emily McNall to clinch the point with an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles.  Rivero and McNall are now 10-7 in doubles play.

In singles play, the Bulldogs jumped out 2-0 right away, with Hall taking a default victory because the Blue Hose were unable to field a player at No. 6.  Presbyterian College took the next point after Christine Boissevain was forced to retire at No. 4.

McNall, Rivero and Amalie Davidsen secured the win thanks to straight-set victories on courts one, two and five.  McNall improved to 12-4 in dual matches with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the top flight, while Rivero won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2.  After a tight first-set, Davidsen finished out the match 7-6, 6-1 at the fifth flight.  PC picked up its second point on court three where Soldier fell 6-3, 7-5 to Caroline deLoach.

The Blue & White will wrap up the regular-season on Saturday when they travel to Rock Hill, S.C. to face the Winthrop Eagles at Memorial Tennis Courts.
