Women's Tennis Falls in Regular-Season Finale at Winthrop

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The UNC Asheville women's tennis team concluded regular-season play on Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 loss to the Winthrop Eagles at Memorial Courts.
Asheville finishes the year with a 13-7 overall record and a 3-6 mark in the Big South, and because owning the head-to-head tiebreaker with Radford, will be the No. 6 seed heading into the Big South Championships.
Winthrop finishes the year 11-11 with a 7-2 mark in conference and will be the No. 3 seed. The two sides will square off again in the quarterfinal round of the tournament on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. at the Asheville Racquet Club.
The Eagles were in control throughout the match, taking 2-of-3 doubles matches to earn the point. The Bulldogs lone victory on the afternoon came through the doubles team of Hunter Hall and Amryn Soldier at the third flight, defeating Camille Amrani and Monica Aguado 7-6. Ericka Rivero and Emily McNall were defeated 8-3 at No. 1, while Christine Boissevain and Lauren Brooker were beaten 8-0.
It was a difficult day for the Blue & White in singles play, falling in straight-sets at all six flights. Amalie Davidsen bumped up to the third flight today, after dropping the first set, she had to retire after two points in the second set. Rivero was beaten 6-0, 6-0 at the top flight, and Emily McNall was defeated 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2.
Hall (6-2, 6-2), Brooker (6-1, 6-0) and Caroline Sherrer (6-2, 6-2) rounded out the lineup for the Bulldogs at four, five and six.
UNC Asheville will be the host for the upcoming Big South Championships beginning on Wednesday, April 15. The first match will begin at 9:00 a.m., featuring No. 8 seeded Gardner-Webb taking on No. 9 seeded Presbyterian College. All matches will be played at the Asheville Racquet Club.
