Gardner-Webb Slips Past Women's Tennis, 4-3

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's tennis team dropped a back-and-forth affair to Gardner-Webb, 4-3, on Monday afternoon at the Webb Tennis Complex.
Asheville falls to 12-6 overall and 2-5 in the Big South, while Gardner-Webb improves to 8-9 on the year and 2-6 in the league.
The Bulldogs showed its depth in doubles play, earning the point, despite falling at the top flight. All three matches finished with an 8-7 score line. Christine Boissevain and Lauren Brooker's match at No. 2 was the first to finish, with Boissevain and Brooker winning 8-7 (9-7), to improve to 13-4 as a team.
Court one and court three finished in close proximity to each other. Emily McNall and Ericka Rivero fell in a tightly contested match at the top flight, 8-7 (7-4). Needing to win, Hunter Hall and Amryn Soldier secured the point by taking an 8-7 (7-4) result at No. 3. Hall and Soldier improve to 7-4 overall with the victory.
Gardner-Webb jumped out in front, 2-1, following singles victories at No. 2 and No. 3. Stina Magnusson knocked off Soldier on court three (6-2, 6-2) and Rokia Sacko downed Rivero to grab a 2-1 lead. McNall leveled the score for the Blue & White with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Yasmin Doost at the top flight.
Asheville fell behind for the second time following Mary Walker Mixon besting Brooker 6-3, 6-2 on court six. As they did earlier, the Bulldogs battled back to even, following Boissevain's 6-3, 6-4 victory at the fourth flight over Sarah Rieckmann, setting up a dramatic finish on court five. It wasn't to be though for the Blue & White on this day, as Hunter Hall was defeated, 6-2, 6-0 in straight-sets to grab the 4-3 victory.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday, traveling to Presbyterian College to face the Blue Hose in a 3:00 p.m. contest at Templeton Tennis courts.
