Women's Tennis Edges ASU, 4-3

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's tennis team won two three-set singles matches to slip past Appalachian State, 4-3 at the Asheville Racquet Club.
The victory pushes the Bulldogs record to 8-1 on the season. ASU falls to 6-5.
Asheville jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the doubles point. The Bulldogs won at #1 and #2 doubles. Emily McCall and Ericka Rivero won at #1 by defeating Clare Cox and Mackenzie LaSure, 6-2. Lauren Brooker and Christine Boissevain knocked off Gabrielle Wreder and Melissa Machado 6-4 to give the Bulldogs the early lead.
In singles action, the Apps won at #1, #4 and #6 flights. Amryn Soldier won at #3 flight for Asheville with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Brianna Armellino, 6-1, 6-3.
The Bulldogs then posted rallied in two singles matches to earn the dramatic victory. Emily McNall won at #2 flight. She lost the first set to Mackenzie LaSure, 4-6 but roared back for the victory, 6-1, 6-2.
At #5 flight, freshman Amalie Davidsen won her match in dramatic fashion. Gabrielle Wreder won the first set, 6-0 before Davidsen rallied to tie the set, 6-2. She then won a tie-breaker, 7-6 to give the Bulldogs the win.
Asheville travels to North Carolina A&T on Monday and then heads to Longwood for a Big South match on Tuesday.
