Women's Tennis Improves to 10-1; Defeats NJIT 6-1

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's tennis team improved on the best start in school history with a 6-1 victory over the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Wednesday afternoon at the Asheville Racquet Club.
Asheville improves to 10-1 overall on the year, while NJIT falls to 2-11 this season. Coach Lise Gregory's side dominated doubles play, winning all three match, before winning 5-of-6 contests in singles play.
The doubles team of Ericka Rivero and Emily McNall improved to 6-3 at the top flight with an 8-4 victory over the Highlanders' duo of Carolina Zanotta and Nathalie Habegger. At No. 2 and No. 3 the teams of Christine Boissevain and Lauren Brooker and Amryn Soldier and Caroline Sherrer each earned 8-0 victories.
Freshman Amalie Davidsen improved on her team-high win total (10) with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Valerie Carroll at No. 5. McNall's 6-3, 6-2 victory in No. 2 singles play over Habegger, boosted her overall record to 8-1 for the year and 6-1 at the second flight.
Brooker remained unbeaten in singles play this season (5-0) with a 6-1, 6-0 victory on court six against Sydney Nowak. Rivero snatched a win at the top flight over Zanotta (7-6, 6-4) and Boissevain downed ines Vujkovac (6-2, 6-4) to round out singles action. The only loss of the day for the Blue & White was at No. 3 where Alba Rosas Garcia bested Soldier 7-6, 6-4.
The Bulldogs return to conference play on Saturday when the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers travel to Asheville for an 11:00 a.m. match at the Asheville Racquet Club. The Blue & White are currently 2-1 in league play while Coastal is unbeaten with a record of 3-0 against conference foes.
