Radford Holds off Men's Basketball 75-68

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Radford scored the final seven points of the game as the Highlanders downed UNC Asheville 75-68 in Big South Conference action Saturday afternoon at Kimmel Arena.
The Bulldogs (13-14, 9-7 BSC) were led by Sam Hughes with 15 points and eight rebounds. Andrew Rowsey, Corey Littlejohn and David Robertson added 10 points each.
Radford (20-9, 11-5 BSC) was led by YaYa Anderson with 22 points. RJ Price chipped in 20 points and seven rebounds. Javonte Green grabbed 10 rebound for the visitors and now has 1,000 in his career. He is just the third player in Big South history to reach 1,000 rebounds.
Asheville trailed 38-35 at halftime but made a big push in the second half and took a one-point lead on three occasions. Hughes hit two free throws at the 2:27 mark to tie the game at 68-68.
But the Bulldogs would not score again. Cameron Jones put RU on top for good at 70-68. Green tapped in an RU miss at the 55-second mark to pad the lead to 72-69. The Highlanders went 3-of-4 from the charity stripe in the final 40 seconds to win for just the second time in Asheville in the past 14 years.
Radford had three players in double figures in the first half as the Highlanders built a 38-25 lead at intermission. The Bulldogs were ice cold from the field as they went just 9-of-30 from the field for 30 percent. RU was led by Price's 11 points, while Brandon Holcomb and Anderson chipped in 10 points each.
Asheville trailed 42-29 early in the second half but steadily chipped away in the second half. Rowsey finished a 9-2 run by knocking down a three-pointer from the corner give the Bulldogs their first lead of the game at 55-54. Littlejohn helped spark the run with all 10 of his points.
But Radford always seemed to have an answer. The Highlanders constantly hit clutch shot after the Bulldogs had scored.
UNC Asheville is home for the final time on Thursday night when the Bulldogs host High Point at Kimmel Arena starting at 7 p.m. Thursday's game will be televised nationally by ESPNU.
