12.14.2015 | Men's Basketball
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – For the second time this season, UNC Asheville guard Dwayne Sutton has been named the Big South Men's Basketball Freshman of the Week, the conference announced this afternoon. Sutton previously earned Big South Freshman honors on November 23, and earlier in the day Monday was named College Sports Madness' Big South Player of the Week.
The freshman leads the Bulldogs in scoring, averaging 11.6 points per game through the first nine contests, and is averaging 7.3 rebounds per night as well. The Louisville native has a pair of double-doubles this season and has come one rebound shy in three other games through his first month and a half of collegiate action.
Sutton led Asheville with 18 points Sunday's Big South victory over Campbell, shooting 66 percent (8-of-12) from the floor while grabbing nine rebounds. He added an assist and block to his final stat line in the win.
Asheville has a quick turnaround from Sunday's win, hosting East Tennessee State on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. inside Kimmel Arena. The Bulldogs finish the week at Georgetown on Saturday at noon. Tuesday's game can be seen locally on WMYA MY40 television and Saturday's matchup will be available on Fox Sports Southeast for fans in the Asheville area.
