 BOX SCORE

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – A penalty kick in the 67th minute proved to be the difference as No. 3-seed Campbell edged out No. 6-seed Asheville, 1-0, Sunday afternoon in quarterfinal action of the Big South Tournament. The Bulldogs conclude the 2015 season 11-9-0 overall (4-6-0 BSC).

Asheville's 21 wins over the last two seasons (11 in 2015, 10 in 2014) ranks as the fifth-most wins over a two-year span in program history (1995-96: 26 wins; 2004-05: 24 wins; 2005-06: 23 wins; 2003-04: 22 wins).

Appearing in the Big South Tournament for the second consecutive season, the Bulldogs played the Camels to a 0-0 tie through the first 45 minutes. After not registering a shot in the first half, Asheville had a number of opportunities in the early goings of the second half but was unable to convert. Junior Paige Trent found an opening in the box in the 51st minute but her shot sailed just wide left. A few moments later, in the 52nd minute, sophomore Caroline Houser's shot was right on frame but saved. Sophomore Gretchen Dettlinger's shot in the 55th minute was turned away by a leaping save.

The match turned in the 67th minute as Campbell's Michelle Procaccini was taken down in the box, leading to a penalty kick opportunity. Ashley Clark was able to convert the penalty kick, giving Campbell the go-ahead goal with a 1-0 lead.

QUOTE

"I thought we played at a championship level tonight. Our attacking movement had great range from our backs, through the midfield transitioning into the final third. We were a bit unlucky not to find the back of the net with the chances we created but that's the game of soccer. Our defense was great tonight taking care of their game plan and inserting themselves. I am proud of this group. We have grown a lot this season through our process. I want to thank our seniors for their four-year commitment to our program. UNC Asheville soccer is in a great place from their leadership and dedication throughout the years. I have enjoyed coaching them and look forward to having them join our alumna status. The most exciting part about UNC Asheville soccer is almost all our roster are freshmen and sophomores, therefore, we will be back stronger, more experienced, and adding more talent to next year's incoming class, so stay tuned." - head coach Michelle Demko
