ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's basketball team began preparations for the 2015-16 season Wednesday evening when the Bulldogs held their first official practice inside Kimmel Arena.
Third-year coach Nick McDevitt welcomes back 10 letterman from last year's club that finished 15-16 overall with a 10-8 Big South Conference record. The Bulldogs advanced to the quarterfinals of the Big South Tournament before falling to Coastal Carolina to end their campaign.
The Bulldogs' 10 league victories marked the eighth straight year Asheville has been in double figures in BSC wins.
McDevitt's club returns three starters from last year's squad, including sophomore guard Kevin Vannatta, named last year's Colelge Sports Madness Big South Freshman of the Year. He was also a member of the Big South's All-Freshman team.
“The first day of practice is a much anticipated and fun day for any coach or player, of any sport, at any level,” stated McDevitt. “Our players have been hard at work over the past few months, readying themselves for the challenges that come with competing at such a high level of athletics.”
The Bulldogs will have an exhibition game against Brevard inside Kimmel Arena on Saturday, Nov. 7 starting at 2:00 p.m. before opening the season at Tennessee on Friday, Nov. 13 and Western Carolina two days later. Asheville's first regular-season home game will be with Johnson & Wales on Wednesday, Nov. 19.
