ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team continued its drive towards the Big South Conference Tournament with a 3-1 home victory over Campbell on Saturday afternoon. The victory keeps the Bulldogs in fourth place in the conference standings with two weekends remaining in the regular season.
THE TURNING POINT
The Bulldogs came out of the break and grabbed a back-and-forth 25-21 set victory in the third set to take the lead in the match. All four sets were close, with the teams trading 25-23 set wins in the opening two sets and Asheville taking set four 25-16.
NOTABLES
-Asheville saw Madison Vaughn turn in a match-high 16 kills for the Bulldogs.
-Cat Fischer finished with a double-double in the win, tallying 14 kills and 16 digs.
-Katie Davis passed out 46 of the Bulldogs' 55 total assists in the match. Davis finishes the weekend with 90 assists out of Asheville's 115 total assists over the two matches.
-The final two sets saw Asheville turn in its best set attacking percentages of the night (.405 and .414). Campbell had two sets where they hit over .300, but had just a .119 hitting percentage in the deciding fourth set.
-The Bulldogs have now won the fourth set in nine of their 13 total fourth sets this season.
-With today's victory, half of Asheville's season win total has now come in four-set matches (six of 12 wins).
-Asheville is now 17-3 against Campbell and has won the last two matchups in the series.
