10.26.2015 | Men's Basketball

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – High Point University has been chosen as the favorites in the Big South Conference's annual men's basketball preseason poll for the 2015-16 season, it was announced today at the Marriott Fairfield Inn & Suites Charlotte Uptown hotel in Charlotte, N.C., as part of the 2015-16 Basketball Tip-Off Media Breakfast.

UNC Asheville and third-year head coach Nick McDevitt were selected seventh in the preseason poll. Asheville, who finished 15-16 overall and 10-8 in Big South play, have nine of their 15 total players either freshmen or sophomores entering the season.

The Bulldogs finished last season sixth in the final Big South standings. Their 10-8 league mark last season was the eighth-straight year of double-digit league wins for the team, the longest current streak in the Big South.

High Point, led by Preseason Player of the Year John Brown, was selected at the top of the opening rankings after receiving 17 first place votes.

Asheville opens the regular season at Tennessee on Nov. 13 and begin Big South Conference play on Dec. 13 when they host Campbell.
