Men's Basketball Hosts Charlotte on Sunday at 3 p.m.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's basketball team welcomes Conference USA foe Charlotte to Kimmel Arena on Sunday afternoon as the Bulldogs play host to the 49ers' starting at 3 p.m. Sunday's contest will be regionally televised by the American Sports Network and can be seen locally on MY-40.

This is the first time Asheville has played the 49ers on campus in 44 years. The teams met 11 years ago in Asheville at the Civic Center with Charlotte winning easily, 92-65. The last time the 49ers played on the Asheville campus came 44 years ago in the 1969-70 season with the Bulldogs winning, 99-68.
Both teams look to snap two-game losing streak. Asheville (2-3) has lost twice on the road, including an 89-75 decision at South Carolina Wednesday night. The 49ers (3-2) have lost twice and both were to 17th-ranked Miami. Charlotte lost to the Hurricanes last Sunday in the finals of the Charleston Classic, 77-58 and then just missed upsetting UM on Tuesday at Halton Arena before falling, 77-74.
“Charlotte has a terrific team. They're very athletic and tough to defend. We've got our hands full as they'll create match-up problems across the board for us,” commented Bulldog coach Nick McDevitt. “We're looking forward to playing Charlotte at Kimmel Arena. It should be a great atmosphere.”
The Bulldogs are being led by the nation's top scorer in Andrew Rowsey. The sophomore guard is averaging 26.6 points per game after scorching South Carolina for 30 points Wednesday night. He has scored at least 20 points in each game this season and has scored in double figures in 33 consecutive games. Freshman forward Kem Ubaru is off to a great start in his rookie year for the Bulldogs. Ubaru is Asheville's second leading scorer at 12.8 and top rebounder at 6.2 board per game. He grabbed 10 at South Carolina Wednesday evening. Sophomore guard David Robertson is averaging 14.5 points in the last two contests. He scored all 15 of his points in the second half at USC.
The Bulldogs are looking for their first win against Charlotte in 30 years. The 49ers have won the last eight meetings between the schools, including last season's 77-56 decision at Halton Arena. Asheville's last win came in the 1983-84 season when the Dogs edged the 49ers, 57-56at the Mine-Shaft.
Sunday's game begins Asheville's first homestand of the season. The Bulldogs will also host Limestone on Dec. 7 at 2 p.m., followed by a game with Tusculum on Dec. 11 starting at 7 p.m.
BULLDOG NOTES
UNC Asheville is 33-8 all-time at Kimmel Arena. The Bulldogs have won their last six games at Kimmel.
Asheville is 29-of-58 from the three-point line in the last two games.
Freshman forward Kem Ubaru has been named Big South Rookie of the Week twice this season.
Charlotte Associate Head Coach Ryan Odom was an assistant coach at UNC Asheville under Eddie Biedenbach during the 1999-00 season. Current Bulldog head coach Nick McDevitt and assistant coach Brett Carey were players on that team.
The Bulldogs never trailed at intermission of any games at Kimmel Arena last year.
Asheville leads the Big South Conference in scoring (80.2), free throw shooting (.760) and three-point shooting (.400).
Andrew Rowsey has scored at least 20 points in seven straight games dating back to last year. He has scored in double figures in 33 consecutive games.
The Bulldogs have committed 45 turnovers in the last two contests.
