ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Winthrop's Krystyna Freda scored four goals to lead the Lady Eagles to a 5-0 Big South Conference victory over homestanding UNC Asheville Wednesday evening.

Winthrop (5-6-0, 1-3-0 BSC) scored on its first two shots of the game. Freda scored the second and third goals of the game and then scored twice in a three-minute span in the second half to seal the Eagle victory.

Asheville (6-6-1, 1-3-1 BSC) outshot Winthrop 24-14 for the match and controlled play for much of game but simply could not score or contain Freda. The Bulldogs were without three starters, two in the defensive backfield.

Amanda Dailor led the Bulldog attack with eight shots, while Caroline Houser had five shots. Eagle goalkeeper Ameila Anderson made eight saves in 84 minutes of action.

The Bulldogs fired the first two shots of the game and had possession of the ball for the first five minutes. But on Winthrop's first entry into Asheville's side of the field, the Eagles scored. Megan David tallied her second goal of the year on an assist from Terri Davis at 5:14.

Freda struck first at 8:55 when she scored on a breakaway to push the lead to 2-0. She scored again in the 25th minute when she intercepted a Bulldog pass and put the ball into the back of the net for a 3-0 Winthrop advantage.

The Eagles led 3-0 at halftime, despite Asheville enjoying a 13-8 edge in shots.

In the second half, the Bulldogs again controlled play and just missed scoring on several shots that were stepped by Henderson.
