ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's basketball team begins preparations for the 2014-15 season this evening when the Bulldogs hold their first official practice at Kimmel Arena starting at 5:30 p.m.

Second-year coach Nick McDevitt welcomes back 12 letterman from last year's club that surprised many by going 17-15. The Bulldogs finished second in the South Division with a 10-6 league mark and advanced to the semifinals of the Big South Tournament for the seventh time in the last eight years.

Asheville rallied from a 1-7 start and some key injuries throughout the year to go 16-8 the rest of the season.  The Bulldogs' 10 league victories marked the seventh straight year Asheville has been in double figures in BSC wins.

McDevitt's club returns three starters from last year's squad, including sophomore guard Andrew Rowsey, last year's Big South Freshman of the Year. He was also a first team All-Conference selection. Rowsey enjoyed the greatest season ever for a freshman in the history of the program with his 20.3 scoring average. He set a single-season school record for three-pointers made with 106. His 20.3 scoring mark was the second highest in the nation for a freshman last season.

“We're excited about the start of practice,” stated McDevitt. “We learned a lot last year and look forward to getting things going again this season. This is a new year with a new teams. We have plenty to work on as we get started.”

The Bulldogs will have an exhibition game at Kimmel Arena on Saturday, Nov. 8 starting at 7:30 p.m. before opening the season at Wake Forest on Friday, Nov. 14 and East Carolina two days later. Asheville's first regular-season home game will be with Johnson & Wales on Wednesday, Nov. 19.
