Stephenson Named Big South Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) - UNC Asheville senior forward Chris Stephenson (Punta Gorda, Fla.) has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Basketball Player of the Week, for games played Jan. 2-8, it was announced today by the Conference office.
Stephenson averaged 20.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 3.0 steals, 1.7 blocked shots and 60.5 percent from the field (26-of-43) in three wins last week. He scored a career-high 33 points in Asheville's 66-56 road win at Radford last Monday, the only Bulldog in double figures and the most points by an Asheville player since the 1998-99 season. Stephenson also grabbed 10 rebounds and went 12-of-19 from the field and 8-of-9 from the line against the Highlanders. On Thursday against VMI, he tallied 17 points, six assists, six rebounds and had four steals in a victory over the Keydets. Stephenson concluded his week with 12 points, three blocks, four assists and two steals in a win over Liberty on Saturday.
