D.J. Cunningham to Miss 2011-12 Basketball Season

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville men's basketball coach Eddie Biedenbach has announced that junior center D.J. Cunningham will miss the upcoming 2011-12 season after having knee surgery recently.

The 6-11 center played in 26 games for the Bulldogs last year and started in 15 contests. He averaged 8.6 points and a team-leading 7.2 rebounds per game. Cunningham was second on the team in blocked shots with 37.

"This is a tough break for D.J. Cunningham and our basketball program," stated Biedenbach. "We will need someone to step up for us this year to try and replace D.J.'s production, but I'm confident in our returning players and our new guys that we will be able to do that."
