03.08.2011 | Baseball

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Aided by a four-run second inning and five errors overall committed by UNC Asheville the Georgia State Panthers earned a 7-1 victory over the visiting Bulldogs at the Field at Panthersville on Tuesday evening.

Of the seven runs scored against the Blue & White, only three were earned. Starter Robert McIntosh gave up six runs (three earned) in three innings of work as his defense committed three errors behind him. McIntosh falls to 0-1 on the season while the Bulldogs drop their seventh consecutive game to fall to 4-7.

Daniel Blaustein and Carter Sackett each collected two runs batted in for the Panthers, who improve to 10-4 with the victory. Aiden Francis picked up the win to improve to 2-0 on the season after pitching three shutout innings.

Leadoff man Jordan Lurie collected a pair of hits for the Diamond Dogs with freshman Tommy Houmard picking up two hits as well. Houmard went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and a walk while right fielder Mike Vaughn collected Asheville's only RBI of the day.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow evening in the final game of a two-game set. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. but could be moved due to inclement weather expected in the Atlanta area.
