Bulldogs Swept In Twin Bill By Eastern Kentucky

RICHMOND, Ky. – The UNC Asheville baseball team saw its current losing skid extended to nine games on Saturday afternoon as the Bulldogs dropped a pair of games to Eastern Kentucky, 10-3 and 10-6, at Turkey Hughes Field as the Blue & White will look to avoid the sweep in game three of the series tomorrow.
Asheville (4-9) gave up 10 runs on 15 hits to the Colonels in game one as EKU exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth of game one. In game two EKU scored nine runs over the first two innings as the Bulldogs gave up six hits and committed four errors over the first two frames.
With the two wins Eastern Kentucky improved to 5-8 on the season.
Robert McIntosh and Cody Buch each went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Bulldogs in game one with the two players combining for four of Asheville's seven hits in the contest. Ryan Dull got the start and pitched effectively until the fourth inning. Dull (0-2) was credited with the loss after giving up six runs (five earned) on eight hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
In game two Eli Miller went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored with teammates Buch, McIntosh, Mike Vaughn and Beau Zinman each driving in a run. Grier Harrington (1-2) took the loss in game two after allowing eight runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
For EKU Chris Hord (1-0) picked up the victory in game one in relief pitching four and two-thirds shutout innings and striking out nine Bulldogs. Kyle McGrath (2-0) earned the game two victory in five innings of work.
Asheville will look to avoid the sweep and end its nine-game losing skid as it concludes its series with the Colonels on Sunday afternoon. First pitch between the two teams is scheduled for 1 p.m.
