GREENSBORO, N.C. –  The UNC Asheville baseball team won its third game in a row on Tuesday afternoon winning a slugfest with North Carolina A&T, 14-8, at War Memorial Stadium as the Bulldogs racked up 13 hits and 12 stolen bases en route to the six-run victory.

Asheville's Carson McLean picked up the win in relief throwing four complete innings to improve to 1-0 on the year. McLean allowed three runs on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts, pitching three shutout innings before giving up a pair of home runs in the seventh.

“We're tickled to get a win and Carson McLean came in and gave us some innings when we needed to put some zeroes on the board to let our offense build a little bit of a lead,” said Asheville skipper Tom Smith. “We ran the bases well and had a couple of two-out rallies that were good. Overall it was a good day for the Bulldogs.”

With the win the Bulldogs improve to 9-14 overall while NC A&T falls to 7-16. Craig Erskine (0-3) was credited with the loss for the Aggies, allowing five runs (one earned) on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Leadoff batter Jordan Lurie went 3-for-6 at the plate with two runs batted in and four runs scored with No. 2 batter Robert McIntosh going 3-for-5 with two RBI. Freshman Nick Collazo got the start at catcher and went 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Asheville would jump out to an early lead in the contest, driving in four runs in the first inning highlighted by a Collazo 3-RBI double. The Aggies would respond with two runs in the bottom of the frame to cut the Bulldogs' lead to 4-2.

Both teams would add a run in the second and then two more in the third as the Bulldogs led 7-5 after three. McIntosh would drive in a run in the top of the sixth to push Asheville's lead to three runs at 8-5.

The Blue & White exploded for four more runs in the top of the seventh, collecting five hits in the frame. Marquis Riley would get two of those runs back for the home team, homering with a runner on first to cut the lead to 12-7. A&T's Xavier Macklin hit a solo blast in the very next at bat to pull to within four at 12-8.

Asheville added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the ninth to go up by six at 14-8. McIntosh would move from first to the mound in the bottom of the ninth and retired the side to give Asheville the six-run victory.

The Bulldogs will have a quick turnaround as they will head to Knoxville, Tenn., to take on the Tennessee Volunteers of the Southeastern Conference tomorrow evening. The game will mark the third year in a row that Asheville will make the trip to Knoxville, with the Vols winning the previous two contests.
