ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's basketball team will play its final non-conference game of the regular season when the Bulldogs travel to Longwood College Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Tuesday's game will be broadcast locally on ESPN Radio (1301-AM) starting with the pre-game show at 6:30 p.m. The game will also be available via audio-streaming at www.uncabulldogs.com.
Asheville (10-11) is coming off an impressive performance on Saturday when the Bulldogs shocked Big South-leading Radford on its home floor, 70-60. Betsy Blose's team continues to play very well on the road as Asheville improved to 6-4 in enemy territory. The Bulldogs were tenacious on the boards at Radford as the out-rebounded the Highlanders, 58-35. Kelli Riles grabbed the most rebounds in a game for a Bulldog since going Division I with 22 rebounds. Riles scored 18 points in the game and enjoyed her ninth double-double of the season. Lindsey Montgomery enjoyed her fifth double-double of the year with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
"We played extremely well at Radford," stated Blose. "I thought our girls did a wonderful job limiting Radford's points in the paint. We didn't let them get too many second shots. On offense, we did a nice job executing and really got the job done when the game was on the line."
The Bulldogs hope to avenge a 76-66 loss to Longwood at home back on Jan. 24. Krystal Garrison scored 25 points for the Lancers than night as Longwood shot 58 percent from (7-of-12) from the three-point line.
"We played well at times against Longwood but didn't play good enough defense to sustain us," stated Blose. "We want to play well tomorrow and get our record back to .500."
Longwood is led by guard Brittany Billups with a 10.2 scoring average, while Chelsey Coward and Garrison average 10.1 points per game.
Kendall Shepard leads Asheville in scoring with a 14.7 scoring average. Lindsey Montgomery averages 13.3 points per game, while Lindsey Thompson has a 12.0 scoring average. Kelli Riles is averaging 11.7 points per game a Big South-leading 10.9 rebounds per game.
This the final game of a four-game road trip for the Bulldogs. Asheville starts a four-game homestand this Saturday against Presbyterian College starting at 2 p.m. That game will be televised locally by WMYA-TV with their pre-game show starting at 1:30 p.m.
