Jaron Lane Named Big South Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) - UNC Asheville sophomore forward Jaron Lane (Greenville, N.C.) has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Basketball Player of the Week, while VMI forward D.J. Covington (Virginia Beach, Va.) has been named The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week for games played the final week of the regular-season, it was announced today by the Conference office.
Lane averaged 14.0 points and 5.7 rebounds in three games off the bench last week. Lane was a key factor in all three of Asheville's wins in a five-day span, which propelled the Bulldogs into third-place in the Big South standings. On Tuesday at Coastal Carolina, he scored 11-straight points en route to a season-high 16 points, and grabbed a career-high eight rebounds in the Bulldogs' 61-58 victory over the Chanticleers. Lane then tallied a career-high 18 points and again pulled down eight boards in Thursday's win over High Point. In that game he scored 12 points in Asheville's second-half surge. Lane concluded his week with eight points (all in the first half), three assists and two blocked shots in Saturday's win over Radford. For the week, he was 15-of-30 from the field ( =50.0 percent), 4-of-10 from beyond the arc ( =40.0) and was 8-of-9 from the line ( =88.9), in addition to grabbing nine offensive rebounds.
