Bulldogs Host Brevard Monday Night

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville Bulldogs get back in action Monday night when they begin a busy week as they'll host the Brevard College Tornados at Kimmel Arena starting at 7 p.m. Monday's game will be video-streamed and can be seen for a small fee at www.uncabulldogs.com.

After Monday's game, the Bulldogs head to the Bahamas to compete in the Battle "4" Atlantis Tournament to be held at the Paradise Resort in Nassau. Asheville opens up the tournament with a game against defending national champion Connecticut Thursday night at 7 p.m. They'll play again on Friday and Saturday before coming home Sunday afternoon.

But the Bulldogs have their minds of Brevard. The last time the teams played was an exhibition game to open the 2009-10 season. The Tornados stunned the Bulldogs, 73-69. That game has not been forgotten.

"The last time we played Brevard we lost," stated Bulldog coach Eddie Biedenbach. "Most of the guys on this year's team played in that game and they remember that night. We better be ready to play from the start Monday night or we could lose again."

Brevard is 0-5 on the season as first year coach Mark Prosser looks for his first victory Monday night. They fell to Division II power Barton on Saturday night, 89-55. Senior guard Gaither Hendrix paces the Tornado attack with an 18.1 scoring average.

Asheville is coming off a 126-75 defeat of Mars Hill Wednesday night. The Bulldogs had a school-record 38 assists in the game and seven players scored in double figures. The 126 points was the second most scored by an Asheville team. However, Biedenbach was concerned about the 75 points the Bulldogs gave up, including 46 in the second half.

"We played very well on offense against Mars Hill," declared Biedenbach. "I liked the way we passed the ball and hit open shots.  However, our defense was not very good for 40 minutes. We gave up 46 points in the second half and gave up a lot of open three-pointers in the game. We're not going to win a championship with that kind of defense. Hopefully, it will be better on Monday night."

BULLDOG NOTES

In three games, nine different Bulldogs have scored in double figures. In the first two games vs. N.C. State and North Carolina, four different Asheville players scored in double figures and then seven scored in double digits vs. Mars Hill.

This will be Asheville's first meeting with Brevard in the regular-season since the 2007-08 season when the Bulldogs posted a 75-35 victory. The Tornados have beaten Asheville twice but both have been in exhibition games.

Matt Dickey has scored in double figures in 11 of the last 12 games dating back to last year.

The Bulldogs have 33 steals in the first three games (11.0). Asheville was 10th nationally in that category last season at 9.1.
