Matt Dickey Named Big South Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) - UNC Asheville junior guard Matt Dickey (Trussville, Ala.) has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Basketball Player of the Week, while Liberty guard John Caleb Sanders (Sugar Land, Texas) has been named The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week for games played Jan. 3-9, it was announced today by the Conference office.
Dickey averaged 17.5 points, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals in two key Big South road wins last week against teams above the Bulldogs in the Conference standings. He scored 19 points, was 4-of-5 from three-point range and recorded three steals in Asheville's 88-67 win at Winthrop last Thursday, handing the Eagles their worst home loss in 14 seasons as well as giving the Bulldogs their second regular-season win at Winthrop in the last 13 years. Dickey then scored a team-high 16 points on 6-of-10 from the field, in addition to four rebounds and three assists, in the Bulldogs' 74-48 win Saturday at Presbyterian College - Asheville's largest Conference road win in school history (26 points). For the week, Dickey was 11-of-20 from the field ( =55.0 percent), 5-of-8 from three-point range ( =62.5) and 8-of-10 from the free throw line ( =80.0).
