08.25.2010 | Men's Basketball

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - A first-time meeting with Georgetown plus road games at Auburn, North Carolina, Ohio State and 16 home games highlights the 2010-11 UNC Asheville men's basketball schedule. The schedule was released today by Bulldog head coach Eddie Biedenbach.

"This is a great schedule for UNC Asheville," declared Biedenbach. "We're going to face a tough non-conference schedule with four games against BCS schools. However, it will be a good schedule for our young team to cut their teeth on and prepare us for the Big South Conference."

Asheville plays two exhibition games to start off its final season of play in Justice Center. The Bulldogs face North Greenville (Nov. 4) and Belmont Abbey (Nov. 8) in exhibition tilts.

Biedenbach's club opens the 2010-11 season at SEC foe Auburn on Nov. 12 before playing at Furman (Nov. 16). Asheville's lone Justice Center regular-season game in November is a first-time meeting with Virginia Intermont (Nov. 20).

The Bulldogs will then begin a five-game road trip over a two-week period. Asheville takes on North Carolina on Nov. 23 before heading to Washington, D.C. and a first-time meeting with Georgetown at the Verizon Center (Nov. 27). Asheville battles USC Upstate in Spartanburg (Nov. 29) two days later.

The Bulldogs open Big South Conference play later that week on the road as they'll play at Radford (Dec. 2) and High Point (Dec. 4). Asheville gets to come home for awhile as it plays five of its next six games at Justice Center. The Dogs host Montreat (Dec. 11) and USC Upstate (Dec. 18) before playing at Ohio State (Dec. 21). After Christmas, the Bulldogs entertain mountain rival Western Carolina (Dec. 28) and league foe VMI (Dec. 31).

Asheville begins play in 2011 with a home date vs. Liberty (Jan. 3). The Dogs are on the road for their next two games with league contests at Winthrop (Jan. 6) and Presbyterian College (Jan. 8). The Bulldogs play their next three conference games at Justice Center as they'll take on Gardner-Webb (Jan. 15), Coastal Carolina (Jan. 20) and Charleston Southern (Jan. 22).

Highlights of Asheville's February schedule includes five home games. The Bulldogs will host an ESPNU BracketBusters game on Feb. 19. The opponent for that game will be announced in late January.  In addition, Asheville entertains league foes Presbyterian College (Feb. 3), Winthrop (Feb. 5), High Point (Feb. 24) and Radford (Feb. 26). The Radford game will be the school's homecoming contest and will be the last regular-season home basketball game to be played at Justice Center.
