Men's Basketball Plays at Big South-Leader Coastal Carolina on Saturday
02.05.2010 | Men's Basketball
The Bulldogs (10-13, 7-5 BSC) had a seven-game winning streak come to a close on Thursday with a 62-54 defeat at Charleston Southern. Asheville had a miserable night on offense as it shot just 42 percent from the field, 13 percent from the three-point line, 44 percent from the free throw line and committed 21 turnovers. The Bulldogs scored just 20 points in the second half as the Buccaneers completed the series sweep.
"We simply didn't play well," stated Asheville coach Eddie Biedenbach. "We played hard and battled but you can't shoot the way we did and turn the ball over and expect to beat a good team like Charleston Southern on the road. It's a very disappointing loss, but it's time to get ready for Coastal Carolina."
And the Bulldogs will have a tough task ahead of them when they face the Chanticleers. CCU improved to 20-4 overall and 10-2 in league play with a crushing 96-60 defeat of Gardner-Webb Thursday night. The Chanticleers edged the Dogs, 58-57 back on Jan. 7 at Justice Center. Chad Gray hit a 15-footer with 5.5 seconds left to give the visitors the win.
"Coastal Carolina is a very good team and its record speaks for itself," commented Biedenbach. "Chad Gray and Joseph Harris are two of the best players in the Big South and will be tough to contend with. We're going to have to play well to have any shot at winning on Saturday."
NOTES - Junior forward John Williams had 190 career blocked shots and needs just one to move past former Bulldog C.J. Walker and become the school's all-time leader in that category...J.P. Primm has 263 career assists and needs just eight to move into the Bulldogs' Top 10 career list...Asheville has been out-rebounded in six of its last eight games but went 5-1 in the games it was out-rebounded...the Bulldogs are 3-3 on the road in BSC play this year...Asheville has won three of the last four times it has played at Kimbel Arena but this is traditionally a tough place for the Bulldogs to win at as they are just 8-18 here.
