John Williams Named Big South Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) - UNC Asheville redshirt-junior John Williams (Raleigh, N.C.) has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Basketball Player of the Week, while VMI forward Stan Okoye (Raleigh, N.C.) has been named The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week for games played Feb. 8-14, it was announced today by the Conference office.
Williams averaged 20.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocked shots in two key wins for the Bulldogs. He posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in a 75-72 victory over Liberty on Feb. 11, in addition to three blocks. Williams then exploded for a season-high 31 points vs. VMI on Feb. 13, and had eight rebounds and three rejections. He was 12-of-15 from the floor and 7-of-11 from the free throw line against the Keydets. He finished the week 16-of-24 from the field (=66.7 percent).
This is the first time this season Williams has earned the award and the second time in his career. He was named Big South Player of the Week once last year. Williams is the second Bulldog to earn the honor as Matt Dickey was named Player of the Week two weeks ago.
