Matt Dickey Named Big South Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) - UNC Asheville sophomore guard Matt Dickey (Trussville, Ala.) has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Basketball Player of the Week, while Radford guard Blake Smith (Charlotte, N.C.) has been named The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week for games played Jan. 25-31, it was announced today by the Conference office.
Dickey averaged 19.0 points and 3.5 assists while shooting 64.3 percent from the floor and 81.8 percent from the line in two wins last week. He opened the week with 12 points and two helpers in a win over High Point and went 6-of-8 from the charity stripe. Dickey then tied his career-high with 26 points in a 92-84 win over defending Big South champion Radford on Sunday. He was 6-of-8 from the floor, 2-of-3 from beyond the arc and hit 12-of-14 free throws against the Highlanders, in addition to handing out five assists.
This is the first time Dickey has ever been named Player of the Week. He was named Freshman of the Week twice last season.
