CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's basketball team will participate in the 2011 BracketBusters sponsored by ESPN on Feb. 19 with a home game.

The Bulldogs are one of nine teams from the Big South Conference participating in the event that will take place the weekend of Feb. 18-20.

Asheville's appearance in the Bracketbusters will mark the second time the Bulldogs have played in the event. Eddie Biedenbach's club played at Eastern Kentucky in 2006 and defeated the Colonels, 83-77.

Representing the Big South in the 2011 event will be last year's four BracketBusters participants Winthrop, Radford, Presbyterian College and Gardner-Webb, plus High Point, Liberty, UNC Asheville, Charleston Southern and VMI -- the latter two making their first appearance in the series.  The Big South has the third-most Conference members participating of the 15 Leagues involved this season, and the nine Big South members are among the overall field of 114 teams scheduled to compete for one of the 11 BracketBusters nationally-televised games.

"We are excited to enhance our partnership with ESPN by expanding our participation in BracketBusters," said Big South Commissioner Kyle B. Kallander.  "This event has proven to be beneficial to the Big South by increasing television exposure, providing quality competition and increasing home games.  Plus, by including a majority of our programs, it is now likely that the Big South's best teams will be participating in BracketBusters."

The Bulldogs won't find out their opponent for the BracketBusters until late January when ESPN announces the match-ups.
