ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's basketball game against Radford scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. has been postponed to Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. due to the winter storm that hit the Asheville area Friday.
The Bulldogs will try to win their seventh straight game on Sunday. Asheville (9-12, 6-4 BSC) will also try to break a five-game losing streak against the Highlanders (11-9, 7-3 BSC). Radford is the defending Big South Conference champions.
The game will be broadcast on WISE Radio (1310-AM) starting with the pre-game show at 12:30 p.m.
The UNC Asheville coaching staff will show its support of the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the American Cancer Society by participating in the 2010 Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers awareness on Sunday. Head Coach Eddie Biedenbach and his staff will don sneakers with their regular game suits to help unite coaches across the country in the common effort to raise awareness for the fight against cancer.
Both teams are coming off wins. Asheville won its sixth straight game on Thursday with an 84-69 win over High Point. Radford defeated Gardner-Webb on the road Thursday, 60-53.
Bulldog coach Eddie Biedenbach knows the Bulldogs will have to be at their best to beat the Highlanders.
"Radford is a very good team with an excellent inside game that we will have a hard time matching up with," commented Biedenbach. "We're going to have to be at our best in every way possible to have a chance at winning against Radford."
The Highlanders started the winning streak against the Bulldogs two years ago with a 62-53 win at the Dedmon Center. RU won all three meetings between the teams last season, including a 94-86 win in the semifinals of the Big South Conference Tournament. The Highlanders outlasted the Dogs earlier this year at Radford on Jan. 2, 82-74.
NOTES - UNC Asheville's six-game winning streak is the longest since the 2007-08 squad won seven straight...the Bulldogs have five players avearging double figures in scoring as J.P.
