ASHEVILLE, N.C.?UNC Asheville's men's basketball team will play 16 homes games along with trips to Charlotte, Tennessee, Georgia, and Kentucky as Head Coach Eddie Biedenbach announced his 2009-10 schedule on Wednesday.

The first chance to see the 2009-10 team will be on Nov. 9, as the Bulldogs host Brevard in an exhibition game at the Justice Center. Asheville will play five of its first eight regular season games on the road.

“I think this will be a very exciting team,” said Biedenbach. “I think we will be picked in the top half of our league, and I feel we have the talent level to play a more effective up tempo game. Our three-point shooting is much improved, and I think our fans will enjoy watching us play.”

The regular season begins on Nov. 13, as Bulldogs travel to Charlotte. The first regular-season home game will be two days later on Nov. 15 against Lees-McRae.

Asheville will face Tennessee in Knoxville on Nov. 17, and then return home to play future Big South opponent Campbell on Nov. 21.

The Dogs hit the road again on Nov. 24 to face Georgia for the first time since 1988. Asheville will play Furman at Justice Center on Nov. 27, before going to Louisville to face Kentucky on Nov. 30.

Big South Conference play begins early again this season. The two Bulldogs in the league tangle on Dec. 3, as Asheville travels to Gardner-Webb. Then, it's back home for three non-conference home games against Montreat (Dec. 13), Catawba (Dec. 15), and Wofford (Dec. 21). The Wofford game will be a special 12:30 p.m. start time on a Monday afternoon.

The Bulldogs travel to play Western Carolina on Dec. 30 for its final non-conference game of the year.

The Dogs begin 2010 at defending Big South champion, Radford on Jan. 2. Asheville travels to High Point on Jan. 4, before returning home to face Coastal Carolina (Jan. 7) and Charleston Southern (Jan. 9).

Asheville is back on the road for two games, at VMI (Jan. 14) and at Liberty (Jan. 16) before beginning a four game home stand against Winthrop on Jan. 21. The Dogs will also face Presbyterian (Jan. 23), High Point (Jan. 28), and Radford (Jan. 30) on the homestand.

The final month of the season sees the Bulldogs at Charleston Southern (Feb. 4) and Coastal Carolina (Feb. 6) before a pair of key home games against Liberty (Jan. 11) and VMI (Jan. 13).

The final road trip of the regular season will take Asheville to Presbyterian on Feb. 16, and Winthrop on Feb. 20.

Homecoming and Senior Day will be on the same day this season as the Bulldogs wrap up the regular season against Gardner-Webb on Feb. 27.

The Big South tournament will begin on March 2 with the quarterfinals being play at campus sites.

“This is one of the most attractive schedules that we have put together in a couple of years,” said Biedenbach. “ With 16 home games, there are plenty of chance to see us play at home. I think this is a promising team with a lot of skill. We are still going to be a young team, but we have some young guys who received valuable experience last season. I am really looking forward to watching us play.”
