ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? UNC Asheville could not overcome strong pitching from Western Carolina's Kyle Stewart and Jason Sullivan as the Catamounts only allowed three hits to the Bulldogs in an 11-0 shutout victory over the Bulldogs at McCormick Field Wednesday night.

The Catamounts (18-6) got on the board in the top of first inning.  With the bases loaded,  J.C. Lyons hit a two-run single that drove in Nick Liles from third base and Ross Heffley from second base.

Trevor Collias led-off the fifth inning with a triple.    The next batter, Nick Liles, hit a single up the middle of the infield that drove in Collias for the Catamounts' third run of the game.  An error at second base by Catlin Carter allowed Stephen Notaro to reach first and Liles to advance to third with one out.  Brent Greer drove in Liles with a single to centerfield.   Matt Dalby took over the pitching duties for Schumer after Greer's hit.  WCU made the score 5-0 with a two-out double from Matt Johns that drove in Notaro.

Prior to the sixth inning, Stewart (3-0) had not allowed an Asheville hit.  The Bulldogs got their first hit off of Stewart in the bottom of the sixth inning when Reed Kreiser knocked a two-out  single up the middle of the infield that moved Schumer from first to second base.  Mike Vaughn could not prolong the inning for Asheville as he was Stewart's fifth strikeout victim of the night.

After loading the bases in the top of the eighth, Asheville relief pitcher Dan Weller was replaced by Michael Boegart.   A wild pitch from Boegart allowed Rollison to score from third.  A single by Heffley drove in WCU's seventh and eighth runs of the game.

The Catamounts took a 10-0 lead in the top of the ninth after Mitchell Hately drove in Johns and Dylan de Graff with a single.

UNC Asheville falls to 5-23 on the season with the loss, while Western Carolina moves to 18-6.

The Bulldogs play again Friday night at 7 p.m. as they take on Big South Conference foe Radford at McCormick Field.
