MACON, Ga. - The UNC Asheville women's tennis team suffered a
close 4-3 defeat to Mercer on Tuesday afternoon at the Leroy Peddy
Tennis Center.
The Bears swept the doubles portion of the match to earn the doubles point.
In singles play, Devon Cavanaugh defeated Amelia Bugge 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 3 match. Louise Bottomley earned a 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 win over Irys Citko at No. 5. At No. 6, Tania Mateva bested Juliana Mescoso 6-4, 6-4. Nicole Schon dropped a three-set match against Stephanie Cohen 6-1, 2-6, 7-5 in the No. 4 match.
UNC Asheville falls to 6-3 with the loss. Mercer snaps a six-match losing streak and moves to 3-7 on the season.
The Bulldogs play their third match in three days as they take on UNC Wilmington at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday in Peachtree City, Ga.
