Bulldogs Face Presbyterian on Saturday
02.27.2009 | Men's Basketball
ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville men's basketball team will finish up the regular season Saturday night with a game at Big South Conference newcomer Presbyterian starting at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on radio by WISE (1310-AM).
The Bulldogs (14-14, 10-7 BSC) have won five of their last six games and a victory would seal at least .500 season for UNC Asheville. The Bulldogs also have a shot at being the third seed in next week's Big South Conference Tournament.
“Saturday's game is a big one and we'll need to play well,” commented UNC Asheville coach Eddie Biedenbach. “We've had a good week of practice and hopefully we can build some momentum for next week's Big South Conference Tournament. Right now all we're worried about is Presbyterian.”
Biedenbach's club faces a dangerous Presbyterian club that isn't eligible for this year's Big South Tournament as the school goes through its provisional play before becoming a full-fledged Division I institution. The Blue Hose (11-17, 8-9 BSC) have been tough to beat home this year with an 8-2 record and 6-2 mark in league play. The Bulldogs barely beat PC back on Jan. 24 at
“We were fortunate to beat Presbyterian last time,” said Biedenbach. “We got off to a good start in that game but they made adjustments and gave us fits. Our guys did a good job in the final eight minutes of the game on offense and defense to get the win but it's going to be a very tough game on Saturday night.”
Presbyterian is led by talented forward Al'Lonzo Coleman who is averaging 14.9 points per game and shooting 51 percent from the field. Guard Bryan Bostic averages 11.8 points per game. Pierre Miller has knocked down 54 treys on the year.
Reid Augst continues to lead
