Baseball Alumni Return for Weekend
10.20.2009 | Baseball
The activities on Saturday included a Home Run Derby, batting practice and a scrimmage with this year's team. The scrimmage ended in a 4-4 tie and was called after eight innings.
Gary Kohler (Class of 2004) won the Home Run Derby contest. One of the offensive highlights of the scrimmage from the alumni was a two-run double from Elliott Arrington (Class of 2008). Arrington is the school's all-time leader in at-bats, RBI, hits and doubles.
Jason Walker (Class of 2002), who pitched the only no-hitter in school against Liberty in the 2000 season, pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
Also participating in the scrimmage were current minor league players outfielder Kevin Mattison (Class of 2008) and right-handed pitcher Alan DeRatt.
"We had a great time with our alumni," commented Smith. "This was a wonderful experience as we had more than 90 people at dinner Saturday night. We want our alumni to know they are always welcome back, and we look forward to seeing more and more of them in the future."
