Three Bulldogs Earn Big South Conference All-Conference Accolades

FULL BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE RELEASE
 
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Three UNC Asheville Baseball players have earned All-Conference accolades from the Big South Conference, announced by the league today (Tuesday, May 19).
 
Sophomore outfielder Blaize Johnson was named to the All-Conference First Team, while Ben Green earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team as a utility player and senior pitcher Lucas Boesen was named to the All-Academic Team.
 
Johnson played and started in 51 games this season for the Bulldogs, leading the team and finishing fourth in the Big South in batting average (.346), second in the league in slugging percentage (.632) and second in the league in on-base plus slugging (OPS, 1.101). He also lead the team and finished 10th in the league in runs scored (48), hits (64) and runs batted in (47). His 16 doubles led the team and were tied for sixth in the league, while his two triples were tied for the team lead and tied for sixth in the league and his 11 home runs were tied for fifth in the league. His 40 walks drawn were also tied for fourth in the league, along with his 117 total bases being fourth in the league.
 
This is Johnson's first career All-Conference honor. He is a native of Kernersville, N.C.
 
Green appeared in 48 games as a freshman, making 45 starts. He slashed a line of .275/.357/.415 with 47 hits including 11 doubles, two triples and three home runs while scoring 29 runs and driving in 33. He also stole 10 bases on the season. Green also made seven appearances on the mound, making four starts and striking out six in 13.1 innings. Named a Perfect Game Second Team Midseason Freshman All-American, Green earned Big South Conference Freshman of the Week honors on May 11.
 
This is Green's first career All-Conference honor. The Matthews, N.C. native is a business major.
 
Boesen made 16 appearances for Asheville on the season, including 13 starts recording three wins. For the season, Boesen totaled 69 strikeouts in 71 innings. He fired a complete game against Mississippi Valley State back on Feb. 27, while his best start of the year came on May 15 against High Point when he fired eight shutout innings allowing just three hits and five walks while punching out a career-high 11. He later earned Big South Conference Starting Pitcher of the Week honors for the performance. In the classroom, Boesen graduated with a bachelor's degree in business with a 3.83 grade point average.
