CHARLOTTE, N.C. ? Liberty freshman guard Seth Curry (Charlotte, N.C.) has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Basketball Player of the Week, while UNC Asheville guard Matt Dickey (Trussville, Ala.) has been named the New Balance Freshman of the Week for games played Jan. 12-18, it was announced today by the Conference office.
Dickey averaged 19.0 points in the Bulldogs' two games last week. He scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds off the bench in Asheville's 61-59 victory over High Point. Dickey was a bright spot in a loss at Winthrop, as he scored 23 points in 25 minutes. He was 6-of-8 for the floor ? including 4-of-5 three-pointers, and was 7-of-9 from the free throw line. For the week, Dickey shot .611 from the field (11-of-18), .545 from long range (6-of-11) and .769 percent from the charity stripe (10-of-13), while averaging 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals.
It marked the second straight week a UNC Asheville player has been named Freshman of the Week. Chris Stephenson earned the award for games played Jan. 5-11.
The Bulldogs play at Coastal Carolina Monday night at 7 p.m.
