RALEIGH, N.C.? UNC Asheville cruised to a 25-17, 25-13, 25-15 victory over Norfolk State in its second match of the Hilton/RTP NC State Classic on Friday evening.

Kelsey Benorden led the Bulldogs (4-4) with a match-high 12 kills and nine digs just missing her second double-double of the day. Raquel Miotto had a match-high 13 digs. No other players reached double-figures although Heather Burns had a solid match with seven kills with one error on 15 swings for a .400 percentage. Cindi Miller assisted on three blocks as the Dogs out-blocked Norfolk State (2-8) 4-2.

Yolanda Roberts led the Lady Spartans with nine kills but hit just .067 on the match. NSU as a team hit -,059 while Asheville hit .130. The Dogs held a 49-41 digging advantage.

"I am happy with the result," said Asheville head coach Julie Torbett. "We actually played better in the first match against William & Mary but it was good to get everyone into this match. I will take the win but we will have to play better tomorrow."

Asheville scored 12 of the first 15 points to begin the match. NSU answered with a 7-2 run to make the score 14-10 but Asheville responded with a 7-2 run in return to take control of the first set 21-12. The Dogs had three set points before Miller's kills gave Asheville the win.

The second set saw two lead changes and two ties, the last at 6-6. Asheville then began a 14-4 run to take control of the set 20-10. The third set saw three ties with the last coming at 8-8. Asheville's 8-2 run gave the Dogs a lead they would not surrender. Asheville finished the match on a 17-7 run to complete the sweep.

The Bulldogs will face tournament host N.C. State on Saturday at 7 p.m.
