ASHEVILLE, N.C.?Former UNC Asheville basketball player Bryan McCullough has signed a new professional contract with Koremend, a Hungarian league power and participant in next year's FIBA EuroCup, which will be called the FIBA EuroChallenge.
For the past two seasons, McCullough has been one of the elite players in
In 2007-08, he averaged 22.8 points (second in the league), 4.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.1 steals. For his efforts in the 2007 season, he was named First Team All-League and in 2008, he was named Second Team All-League.
McCullough throughout his career has proven to be a high-volume scorer. Kormend, the Hungarian league runner-up from a year ago, needed an offensive weapon from the wing position, so McCullough was the natural fit.
The Salisbury native enjoyed a great career at UNC Asheville from 2001-05. He was a three-year starter and finished his career 17th on the all-time career list in scoring with 1,186 points. McCullough is ninth all-time at Asheville in assists (300), fourth in steals (147) and sixth in three-pointers made (125). He was the Bulldogs leading scorer his junior (10.0) and senior season (13.5). McCullough earned second team all-conference in 2005 and was a member of the Big South Conference All-Tournament in 2003 when the Bulldogs won the league crown.
Kormend will open European play against Dutch power, Eiffel Towers Den Bosch on Oct. 14. Fans can keep up-to-date with McCullough and Kormend by visiting www.fibaeurope.com and Athlete Management International's website at www.athletemi.com.
