Alan DeRatt Leads Nation With Lowest ERA

ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? UNC Asheville senior right-hander Alan DeRatt has the lowest ERA in the nation, according to the latest NCAA Statistics that was released on Tuesday night.

DeRatt has 0.64 ERA in 56.3 innings pitched this season. The Cary, N.C. native is 6-1 in nine starts this year. He has allowed just four earned runs this year and that happened in one game when the Bulldogs defeated Marist, 5-4 on March 14. He has one complete game shutout and teamed up with UNC Asheville relievers to pitch two more. DeRatt has a team-leading 40 strikeouts and allowed 35 hits.

“Alan has been just phenomenal this year,” commented UNC Asheville head coach Willie Stewart. “He has pitched great every time out and given our team a chance to win. It is simply amazing that as many starts as he's had this year that he's only allowed four earned runs.”

The Bulldogs have two other players mentioned in the national statistics. Shortstop Kevin Weidenbacher is 18^th nationally in hits with 59. Catcher Reed Kreiser is 42^nd nationally in home runs hit with 10.

Asheville plays tonight at Furman with first pitch at 7 p.m. before the Bulldogs head to Coastal Carolina this weekend for a Big South Conference series against the nationally-ranked Chanticleers.
