Men's Basketball Moves to 12th in College Insider Mid-Major Poll

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's basketball team has moved up to 12th in the latest edition of the College Insider Mid-Major poll that was released Monday night. The Bulldogs received 419 votes from coaches around the country that coach in mid-major conferences.

UNC Asheville was ranked for the first time four weeks when it was 22nd with 112 votes. The Bulldogs moved to 20th the following week with 171 votes before climbing to 19th two weeks ago with 213 votes. Last week, Asheville climbed to 15th with 336 votes.

 

The Bulldogs are 18-4 for the first time in school history. Asheville won its seventh game in a row to stay perfect in the Big South Conference on Saturday with a 71-56 victory over defending Big South Conference champion Winthrop at Justice Center. Eddie Biedenbach's club is off until Saturday night when they begin a stretch of playing three games in seven days against league opponents. The Bulldogs play at Liberty Saturday night starting at 7 p.m., followed by a road game at High Point on Feb. 13. Asheville's next home game is against VMI on Saturday, Feb. 16 starting at 7 p.m.

 

The Bulldogs' 419 votes puts them ahead of Santa Barbara (325), Ohio (319), Sam Houston State (301), Stephen F. Austin (293), Cal State Northridge (305), Illinois State (263), Creighton (235), Oral Roberts (165), IUPUI (161), Rider (136), Pacific (114), Cal State Fullerton (76) and Morgan State (39). 

 

Butler is number one in the poll with 753 votes and 15 first-place votes. Gonzaga is ranked second, followed by Drake.
