K.J. Garland Named Big South Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. ? UNC Asheville senior guard K.J. Garland has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Basketball Player of the Week and Liberty guard Jeremy Anderson (Bowling Green, Ky.) has been selected as the New Balance Freshman of the Week for games played the week of Jan. 28-Feb. 3, it was announced today by the League office.

 

Garland averaged 19.0 points, 6.0 assists and 5.5 rebounds in leading Asheville to two important Big South Conference wins and a two-game lead in the League standings.  He opened the week with 12 points, four assists and a season-high eight rebounds in the Bulldogs' four-point win at Coastal Carolina on Jan. 28, contributing 10 points, six rebounds and 4-of-4 from the free throw line in the second half.  Against Winthrop on Saturday, Garland fueled the Bulldogs with a season-high 26 points to help snap a 15-game regular-season losing streak to the Eagles.  He scored 17 second-half points and hit all five field goal attempts, including 4-of-4 from three-point range, in leading Asheville back from a halftime deficit.  Garland also handed out eight assists and recorded two steals in the win.
