Mase Captures First in the Mile and 2nd in the 800

LEXINGTON, Va. - Senior distance runner Emily Mase captured the mile and finished second in the 800 to highlight the UNC Asheville's Indoor Track and Field team's performance at the VMI Relays on Saturday.
Mase on the mile with a time of 5:19. Teammate Emily Becker finished in 11th at 6:05. Katie Olert came in 12th at a time of 6:06. Freshman Katherine Clark was in 13th at 6:17.
The Bulldogs had a first on the men's side as Andrew Burnette finished first in the 800 with a time of 2:00. Jon Harmon finished fifth in the mile at 2:04. Dane Corriher took seventh at 2:05, followed by Duane Stepp at 2:06.
Omar Ahmad took a third place in the triple jump with a jump of 13.48 meters. Daniel Corriher set a personal best in both the shot put (13.86 meters) and weight throw (13.16 meters). Keith Scruggs had a PR in the shot put (12.10 meters).
Corrie Trotter took third place in the high jump at 1.52 meters.
"Overall, I was very pleased with what we accomplished on Saturday," stated UNC Asheville coach Jesse Norman. "We made some real progress today and continue to improve. We still have work to do but we're making some strides toward the Big South Conference meet later this month."
The Bulldogs compete this Friday at the Appalachian State Invitational.
