BUFFALO, N.Y. -Calvin Betts scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Buffalo to a 71-52 victory over cold-shooting UNC Asheville Saturday afternoon at Alumni Arena.

The Bulldogs (4-7) were led by Reid Augst with 12 points. John Williams and Matt Dickey added eight points each. Sean Smith had seven points and four steals.

UNC Asheville had a tough day shooting the basketball. The Bulldogs shot just 35 percent (18-of-52) from the field and were ice cold from the three-point line, going 2-of-17 for 12 percent.

Buffalo (4-7) also dominated the backboards. The Bulldogs had a 42-26 advantage on the boards.

"Buffalo was just tougher on us both offense and defense," commented UNC Asheville coach Eddie Biedenbach. "We battled pretty good in the first half but didn't play well enough in the second half to beat a tough team like Buffalo on its homecourt."

The first half was close with seven lead changes before the Bulls took a 25-20 halftime lead.

In the second half, Buffalo limited the Bulldogs to just nine points in the first 10 minutes of the half and built a 49-34 lead. The Dogs could get no closer the rest of the game.

Asheville had only eight field goals in the second half and shot just 32 percent (8-of-32) from the field. The Bulldogs had 15 steals in the game with Augst and Smith leading the way with four each.

The Bulldogs are back on the road Monday night when they play at NIT champion Ohio State starting at 7 p.m. The teams played last year in the first round of the NIT.
